Award-winning Musical, Reincarnation, Debuts in Lagos

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, in collaboration with QDance Company, has premiered the internationally acclaimed, award-winning musical ‘Reincarnation’ at the Glover Hall.

‘Reincarnation’ is an interdisciplinary creation that showcases the depth of Yoruba philosophy mixed with the current Nigeria Youth Culture, featuring a variety of Nigerian dances marked by the rhythm and groove of Lagos.

Speaking at the premiere, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commended the Artistic Director, noting that the presentation is a unique and inspirational rendition that Lagos can proudly export to the world.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his conviction that the youths in Lagos are talented and expressed confidence that more quality productions would emerge from the crop of artists in the State.

Delivering her remarks on the partnership initiative, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Pharm. (Mrs.) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, stated that the concept was designed to project Lagos as a major destination that will continue to attract local and international tourists for entertainment, arts and culture.

According to her, the event was also intended to serve as a medium to expand the concept of tourism and engender a paradigm shift from conventional models of heritage-based cultural tourism to new models of creative tourism.

Also speaking at the event, the Artistic Director, Mr. Qudus Onikeku, explained that the choreography was written with a highly musical structure combined with intricate and carefully designed visual aesthetics layered in three parts – Birth, Death and Rebirth.

Onikeku averred that the new creation is the result of six years of continuous research with young dancers in Nigeria.

The Lagos Premiere further established Lagos as a vibrant and innovative tourism destination that would diversify the economy and create jobs across multiple tourism segments, just as it offers the world access to the ingenuity and hospitality of Lagos residents.

Dignitaries at the Premiere included the wife of the Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Oyinade Nathan-Marsh; and Senior Special Assistant on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Tunji Seymour, amongst others.
