The Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Saturday morning, passed on at age 83 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
His remains have been transported to the Oyo Palace for proper traditional rites.
The Alaafin had been sick and there were plans to fly him abroad for proper care before he died.
The late boxer had 13 wives and several children and grandchildren. The late monarch ruled for 52 years, the longest any king has in Oyo.
He was crowned on 18th November, 1970, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I. He was known popularly as Iku Baba Yeye.
The late Alaafin was the permanent chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
