ASUU: 80 Days After, UNIBEN Students Storm Streets in Protest

80 days after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike action commenced, a large number of students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Wednesday took to the streets to protest the continuous strike action.

The students barricaded the busy Benin-Lagos Expressway, school gate and Ring Road, thereby, causing heavy gridlock.

They expressed dissatisfaction over the strike action which, according to them, has killed several students of tertiary universities and rendered some others useless.

The students were sighted at the campus entrance chanting solidarity songs. They displayed placards with inscriptions like ‘FG, Settle ASUU’, ‘Enough is Enough’, ‘End ASUU Striike’. They have resolved to adopt the “UNISTREET” method. This means that while some of the students would act as lecturers, others would be students taking lectures in their bid to air their displeasure of the strike.
