Former Japanese PM Shot Dead on Campaign Ground

Former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, died on Friday after being shot while giving a campaign speech on a street in central Japan. 

Abe was said to be delivering a speech in support of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) candidates in Nara ahead of the upcoming Upper House elections slated for Sunday. 

According to a senior LDP official, Abe died at a hospital in Kashihara city, Nara region, where he was receiving medical treatment. 

The senior official also confirmed that Abe was 67.
